Cisco Switch Asset Renewal Programme

The Objective
As preferred supplier to a tier 1 retailer, we were engaged to design, implement and manage an asset renewal programme of Cisco Gigabit Switches throughout the client's entire estate. On face value this seemed a relatively simple task as asset renewal contracts of this size and scale are second nature to the team at ASH. However the client required the entire programme need be implemented without any network downtime during store trading hours, this presented a new challenge as many of the sites trade 24 hours a day.

The Solution
ASH utilised the client's testing facilities and virtual store environment to design a robust implementation process that allowed the hot-swapping of devices between switches without losing network connectivity. Our 24h technical support team then provided the installation teams with remote support to manage the reconfiguration of the new switches in the live environment.

The Result
Over 1000 switches were rolled out during trading hours allowing operations to continue uninterrupted. The project was delivered on time and on budget due to the comprehensive testing of the implementation and back out processes and project plan before any work was carried out in a live environment. This, in turn, allowed both the client to continue without any disruption to daily operations while ensuring that the client's customers happily continued with their shopping oblivious to the huge infrastructure changes going on behind the scenes.
